I often get asked questions such as: “How much should I give”, “How much do I have to give”, “How much am I supposed to give”?
I have begun to answer these questions by responding: How much do you want to give? That is where we must start. The New Testaments call to give explains that our giving must flow from our heart. If we desire to give x amount start there. If it is an amount that gives your heart and spirit peace, give that amount and partake in the joy of generosity from a pure heart. If you truly desire to give nothing, that is an entirely different issue that must given attention. Dig into your heart’s motivation. Do not give until your heart desires it. Your heart must be transformed first, then your wallet will follow. “Each one must do just as he has purposed in his heart, not grudgingly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” (2 Cor. 9:7)
